Dwarf Kings Hold Dwarf Shield Breakers

These are the last of my Dwarf Kings hold models to paint.  Glad to finish up this project.  Overall the Mantic line is cheaper than Warhammer but the quality is lower.  I really prefer the Bones line from Reaper as they are low cost but still very high quality.

Reaper Cave Troll 77004

A really quick paint.  Not a whole lot of texture.  I used this one to test if Bones could be painted without primer.  While painting the only thing I noticed was that the paint flowed onto the mini differently.  Not sure if this was bad or not but I didn't like it.  After painting I noticed a small seem on the arm like the paint had split and when the arm moved you could see white.  I ended up flaking off the loose paint and touching it up before I sealed the mini.

Reaper Werewolf 77009

At Reapercon I picked up 2 of the new Werewolves made out of the bones material.  I'm looking to start a Koborlas army and these will be the first ones I paint.  Since the werewolves will be pups I'm going to paint them browns with no gray in the fur.  I'm thinking that as they go up the hierarchy(older) the units should get more grey

Reaper River Trolls 14944/14455/14008

A Few months ago I painted the 3 troll figures for my Reptus army.  The Group consists of 14944 Uru, the River Troll Chief, 14455 Uszkuluz Greyhide Troll Shaman, and 14008 River Troll.  I like them visually as they look like some serious muscle.  I've only used them in a few games but what I remember is that they do good against light infantry.  All have regerneration 4 so if they are only taking light wounds they can stay in the game for a long time.  Add in the shamans healing ability and the group has some staying power.  thinking about adding another River Troll for a true wall of green muscle.

Gremlins

I saw these on the new release rack at reaper and had to pick up a pack.  First thought is look at the cute little gremlin right before they slide their wicked knives into you.   Or that's what I think of them anyway.

I think the key to these is going to be skin tone.  I'm thinking of using the same color as on the goblin commando but I think I want to stay away from them looking like goblin children.  Maybe I should go with more green based skin since my goblin was grey/blue.

Goblin Commando

Next up is a Goblin Commando.  The mini is from Reaper's Pathfinder range.  I really like the artwork associated to pathfinder and they seem to go with a grey skin tone for goblins rather then the traditional green.  I think I'm going to stick with this and see where it goes.

Field Trip to Reaper

On Saturday Reaper held a party to celebrate the end of their Bones Kickstarter.  It managed to raise 3.4 million so that's a lot of little plastic men they have to deliver in March.  Reaper rolled out the red carpet and supplied food, drinks and bones to paint.  I thought about bringing a basic set of painting gear but in the end left it all at home.  This made the paint and take more challenging as I did not have the colors I'm use to using or my normal brushes.  Still it was a fun time and hey the minis were free so no complaints from me.

I have no idea what colors I used but I did a lot of wet mixing, trying to get highlights etc. Once I got home I decided to touch the up and use some washes to pretty them up some.

Mantic Skeltons

Last Night I stayed up late finishing a group of 10 Mantic Skeletons.  I think that came out OK for table top quick paint jobs.  Not particularly thrilled by the them but they will look fine when playing Dwarf King's Hold.  Now I just need to paint the Dwarf's for that game.  The painting was sped up by mostly using a single base coat followed by a wash.

I'm not dead.  Just stopped blogging for a while.  I thought about doing some catch up posts but I think that's what burned me out on blogging last time I tried.  I'm going to try and start using this space to record the minis I paint and games I play.

Right now I'm addicted to watching the Reaper Bones Kickstarter.  What a great deal.  the biggest worry is when will I have time to paint all of those Mini's

And there is still 7 hours to go
