    Bones II Kickstarter

Well they did it again.  I have bought more plastic crack.  This time there seems to be a lot more options to spend you money on.  I think a plus was how they broke out the sci-fi models into their own expansion so if you were one of the ones complaining about not wanting to pay for them in the first kickstarter now you could avoid them.

Yesterday I went to Reaper Factory in Denton Texas for the end of the kickstarter celebration.  They were nice enough to feed us Texas BBQ and let us paint some mini's.

I picked up an Orc Hunter 77045 and tried out some different paints.  This was the first time I used 09040 Dark Shadow.  This is more of a wash and I found it worked quite well in place of the Augax Earthshade I normally use.

    Orc Hunter 77045
The highlight was getting to see Reaper Bryan take a pie to the face

Here is a link to the official video.  I'm in the back of the crowd shot at the end:

They had some of the Big options on display, even a few of them were painted.
    Khanjira, The World Breaker

    Narthrax Dragon

And finally it all came to an end.  Congratulations to Reaper for another successful Kickstarter.  Now I just need to paint all this stuff before they start shipping the new stuff.

    Reaper Bones 77016 Rats

I found this link for inspiration

I decided that I didn't want the rats to all look alike so I base coated with 4 different colors of brown from the HD range of paints.  I think my favorite is Ashen Brown as it seems the most rat like to me.  The other browns are more hamster colors.

I think these can make a good challenge for a first level party.  Everyone needs to grind low levels on something and maybe rats can be the new kobolds.

    Base Colors

    1. 29827 Griffon Tan
    2. 29831 Ashen Brown
    3. 29828 Woodland Brown
    4. 29822 Suntan Flesh

    Guardian of the Coke Zero

Well now that I have all of my Bones in from the Reaper Kickstarter I decided to put together the Kaladrax.  Went together easily and it's quite impressive.  He is going to take some time to paint.  I'm thinking I'll start off with bone colored spray primer to save some of the work.

      77157 Griffon

This was included in the Vampire set.  I've threatened to paint the boys metal one from his dwarf warlord army but he always said he was going to do it.  So finally I'm going to paint these and leave his alone.  I ended up with two of them so twice as much fun.

For source material I used this picture of the griffon painted by Anne Foerster:  Griffon

Reaper 77047 Goldar - Reapercon 2013 Paint and Take

Reapercon had a paint and take table that included many of the new bones figures from the Vampire set.  I picked this one up as it looked like a good model to work on skin tones with.  Part of any paint and take is the limited supply of colors so I actually had to blend colors.  Not something I do much of regularly.  I'm not sure of the colors I used but there was a brown, grey, purple and a metallic.  I added oiled leather to the straps and washes on the straps and metal part when I got home.

      Reapercon 2013

I just finished up attending Reapercon 2013.  Overall we had a great time with 3 days of continuous gaming.  I also got to pick up my Vampire box, and won half a box in the auction so now I have 370 unpainted bones mini's.  The boy did well in the Warlord Tournament with a record of 2-1.  The lose was to the first place winner so that was a really good showing.  I only won one game in the tourney but took 2nd place in the painted army so I was proud of that.

The Dragon Turtle Hits the Beach

Now to start a new army for next year.  I have plenty of Bones to work with.

      Saturday Game Night 4-6-2013

Saturday night the boy and I headed out to the game store.  We got there just in time to get into a game of Eclipse.  This ended up being a fun night of interstellar conquest.  the boy teamed up early with the owner of the game and they worked well together.  I came into conflict with my neighbor and we spent the night blowing each other up.  I was surprised that at the end I came out much better than I thought I would, but was it was obvious that the boys alliance was going to come out on top.

About half way through the game.

        1st 40K game in a long time

Yesterday was my first game with the Orks in the League.  Got a good learning game against Dark Angels.  The moment of the game for me was when 5 terminators assaulted my squad of 10 shoota boys with a Nob. They failed to kill any and the swing back did 4 wounds resulting in 3 dead terminators.  It was like a ray of light from the dice gods.  The rest of the game did not go as well and it ended up with me holding one objective and my opponent had one but he killed my warlord, had first blood and line breaker so it ended in his favor.

        List for the first game:

        Total Roster Cost: 749

HQ: Big Mek ( 95 pts)
1 Big Mek =  Eavy Armour + Bosspole  + Kustom Force Field

        Elite: Lootas ( 75 pts)
           4 Lootas
              1 Mekboy

        Troops: Boyz (121 pts)
           10 Boyz  Big Shoota x1
              1 Boyz Nob
              1 Trukk Red Paint Job

        Troops: Boyz (121 pts)
           10 Boyz =  Big Shoota x1
              1 Boyz Nob
1 Trukk = Red Paint Job

        Troops: Boyz (181 pts)
           20 Boyz = Big Shoota x2
1 Boyz Nob =  'Eavy Armour  + Bosspole  + Power Klaw

        Troops: Boyz (156 pts)

        More Orks

I had a good amount of time to work on my army yesterday but Tuesday is getting closer.  I finished up the shoota orks and base primed the Lootas.  I hope to start painting them today.  I also put together my 2nd Ork trukk.

        Ork Shooter Boyz

Everything I'm hearing is that the shooter boyz are more important now in 6th edition.  A big part of this seems to be the overwatch shots when they are charged and the nastyness of the quantity of shots they can put out.  Time to finish painting them up.  I finished 7 of the 18 I currently have back in 2010.  I guess I should have done the other 11 by now.  The paint will be a little different since I moved to master series but they are orks so matching was never important to them.

        Ork Army WIP

I'm gong to try and start posting more work in progress rather then just a post when I finish a certain mini.  Last night was a pretty good hobby night.  I'm getting ready for the Tuesday night hobby league so I concentrated on finishing some orks.  I built 4 lootas and the Mek.  Then worked on painting some of the shoota boys.Over the last 2 days I finished 5 of the 11 that I have unpainted.
Newly assembled Ork Lootas and Mek

        Orks on a stick anyone?

Finished Ork Shoota ready for a hard candy coating

        Warhammer 40K League

Well I took a trip to Texas Toy Soldiers to take a look at their Tuesday night league.  There were around 12 players of all different skill levels all looking for games and willing to help new players out.  The scoring system for the league puts a premium on playing and less on winning so it seemed inviting to me. Time to break out the orks and wage WAAAAAAGH!!!  Hopefully I can start posting some battle reports soon.

I figured it was time to knock out a group of 5 reptus spear men.  I'm looking forward to see how they preform with reach.  I'm wondering how they will work teamed up with turtles.  Use the turtles as shields and use reach to go over the top.  might be fun to try out.
